Joel is a member of the VoidTokyo photography collective.

Recent recognition of his work includes 1st place at the Tokyo International Foto Awards for his book, The Consolation of Dew; a solo exhibition at the Nizhny Tagil Museum of Fine Arts; and nomination for the 9th cycle of the Prix Pictet.

His latest publications are SLOPES and RESTROOMS.
